Other Development Options
There are a number of informal ways in which employee at Amey can develop their skills.
Please discuss these options with your People Manager.
Coaching
Coaching is a process where a coach supports you to make a change, learn something new or achieve your goals.
The process of coaching happens through conversation, and can take place face-to-face, over the phone, or online.
Suitable for band C+
External coaches are managed through L&D People Partner.
Mentoring
Mentoring is the long term passing on of support, guidance and advice.
A mentor is sought for their specific knowledge and experience. They may also offer the mentee advice.
A mentor shares experience, insights and feedback that will guide the mentee in the achievement of their learning objectives.
Both mentor and mentee can learn from each other.
Amey’s new mentoring programme coming soon.
Shadowing
The activity of spending time with someone who is doing a particular job so that people can learn how to do it:
Work shadowing involves observing a professional to gain a better understanding of the role.
Shadowing also allows people to experience how the same job can be different depending on its setting.
Insights
Insights® methodology – a concept based on psychology which uses colour energies to explain why we act and react in different ways. Insight can be used to enhance Self-Awareness and your ability to adapt and connect with your colleagues.
Our L&D team have Insights Practitioners who can deliver a series of virtual workshops designed to help your teams work more productively, or a longer-term programme based on leadership, culture, or change.
Increased responsibility
Experiences that place people out of their comfort zone and increase personal responsibility are a key foundation in development.
Look for opportunities to learn through added responsibility i.e. run a project or manage a team to deliver an objective.
