Neurodiversity Network

What is Neurodiversity?

Neurodiversity is often used as an umbrella term to describe people who are Neurodivergent, that is they experience, interact with, and interpret the world in different ways. Most people’s brains work in a similar way, this is called neurotypical, and society expects everyone to learn, work and act in a neurotypical manner. Social expectations on learning an interaction are designed around the neurotypical state; however, one in seven people are Neurodivergent.

These conditions include, but are not limited to:

• Attention deficit hyperactive disorder (ADHD)
• Autism
• Dyslexia
• Dyspraxia
• Dyscalculia
• Dysgraphia
• Tic disorders such as Tourette’s syndrome

Our Neurodiversity Network

The main purpose of the Neurodiversity Network is to increase awareness of Neurodiversity, focusing on celebrating the strengths our Neurodiverse colleagues bring to Amey

As well as this we want to provide support to our Neurodivergent employees if and when they may need it.

Key Objectives:

Increase awareness of Neurodiversity
Celebrate strengths of Neurodiverse employees
Support the business to ensure our policies and processes are inclusive
Provide a safe space for our employees
Work towards making Amey an employer that allows all employees to come to work as their true

The committee

Chaired by Rachael Brown, the committee includes representatives from all areas of the business and meets once a month. If you'd like to speak to a committee member or join the committee please contact NeurodiversityNetwork@amey.co.uk

Safe Space Sessions

These sessions are to give employee’s a safe space to speak freely with others in similar situations to share any struggles they may be experiencing, provide others with tips or just to chat or listen to others.

· If you are Neurodivergent, believe you may be or are a carer for someone who is?
· Would like to be able to talk openly to others in the same position as you?
· Would just like to chat/ask questions/or get something off your chest?

Then come along to our safe space sessions, just email NeurodiversityNetwork@amey.co.uk and you will be added to the monthly meeting scheduled on the second Wednesday of every month.
